Founded in 2013 "by a couple of disgusting neckbeards" ( their words, not mine), the studio specialized in pornographic parody videos of various video game characters such as Lara Croft, Ivy from SoulCalibur, and Jill Valentine (the legality of which remains questionable at best). So, remember back in 2015 when Blizzard sent out a bunch of cease & desist orders to a certain pornographic animated film studio? That was Studio FOW. Subverse is a bit of a mashup of genres, including dating sim, twin-stick shooter, and tactical turn-based combat game all mixed in with some space exploration and RPG elements. If an obviously pornographic game is something that’ll make you feel uncomfortable, feel free to skip this one. StudioFOW has a long way to go but I'd love to be here watching them grow.WARNING: The article describes a game that is definitely not for minors or anyone who isn’t extremely sex-positive. It also helps that the space battle portions are so good. I'm attached to the characters because I'm down bad for all of them but also because there's plenty of interaction that actually make them fun to follow. It's a kind of game that I enjoyed merely because I know how to turn my brain off. Subverse is definitely not the kind of game I would recommend to anyone even without the porn. Some are added as plot convenience, too, but they're executed in a fun way so I don't mind. I doubt we can actually explore all mentioned established realities in the galaxy but it's good to know there's a story somewhere. Subverse falls into the tell-show-less trap but it can't be helped given the nature of the game. At best, each character is just a trope personified but it's how these personalities interact us actually kind of endearing. They're raunchy on purpose and for the sake of comedy but it doesn't underplay the concept of personality. However, the way they each talk actually feel like the game has a serious story underneath all those R-rated exchanges. Jokes are hit or miss and this time, it's mostly miss. I'm also not an expert in this but I am going to say I like it. Her situation and drive to rebel against it is actually relatable. The 4th girl got me worried because it's my least favourite character voice and trope in a body that is absolutely my type. I am not an expert on this so I can only judge with my ♥♥♥♥, but all of them satisfy me. If we could play with two heroes rather than one at a time, that would be amazing but the size of each arena isn't built for that. Most of the time, I don't know what I'm doing because I have little to no means to control what units I lay down. This is actually the worst element in the game. I wish they expand on this in their future game projects (+porn of course. This is the most surprising bit because it's actually great! Controls are amazing, enemy varieties are perfect, and boss battles come with memorable gimmicks. You can also adjust your camera so it's a lot better than Sims with adult mods. Your only interaction with them is to adjust the intensity of some animations and when to ♥♥♥. Here's my opinion on each elements that I can identify (I'm not good at this so please take it with a grain if salt):īasically just a collection of StudioFOW signature shorts. It's definitely no game of the year contender and other games offering bullethell, tactics, or dating sim gsmeplays are much better minus the porn.
